The Authority – Relentless (video review)

Is The Authority the first modern superhero comic? Does it still hold up today?

Mike-EL, Michelle and Miles “Mayhem” take a look at the groundbreaking comic by Warren Ellis & Bryan Hitch. A deconstruction of the superhero genre whose seeds were planted in Stormwatch, The Authority was so controversial at the time of it’s release that DC Comics did everything it could to destroy it. Luckily for us, Marvel scooped all of the creators (Ellis, Hitch, plus Mark Miller & Frank Quietly) and used them to rebrand their own superheroes in the early 2000s, leading to the New X-men, the Ultimates line, and Civil War.

But does the widescreen action, blistering pace and minimalist dialogue still hold up today?

For another opinion, check out the full review by Danny-Boy, J’orge, Mike-EL & B.J.!
