Our rocket-packed friend Clifford Secord is back in action again with a new adventure on his hands this time!

The sudden surprise with this issue that caught me off guard from the jump, was the familiar writer we all know, none other than Mark Waid himself. I’ve truly enjoyed the written catalog that he’s done over the years, which includes some of the greats: The Flash, Captain America, Superman and of course, Kingdom Come –one of the best graphic novels ever released, in my opinion. It was good to see him take over the writing efforts for this Rocketeer issue!

Flight inspectionThe story opens with Sally, an awesome tomboy who’s trying to pass inspection for her flight with the inspector, Mr. Feeney on board. Things go wrong with the plane as it starts to spin out of control, and  SPOILER ALERT our rocket-powered hero shows up to save the day as we knew he would.

It was good to see Sally become one of the main characters in this issue because she brought a little more spunk to the story and I felt that she was a great addition to the Rocketeer roster in general.

Of course, we have the regular roller coaster ride in between the pages with Cliff and Betty’s relationship, which is a crowd-pleaser to say the least.

All the while, there is a mysterious tanker headed for Los Angeles with some seriously dangerous cargo aboard. It looks like a tough challenge may be coming Secord’s way after all!

What will our rocket hero do to stand up in the situation? I recommend the book to all Secord fans, so pick it up and find out!

Rating: 3 ½
