Gerry Conway on the Death of Gwen Stacy

The famous Spider-Man scribe discusses working at Marvel Comics in the 70’s and how he may have changed comics.

A perennial figure in the Bronze Age of Comics, and perhaps the man who ended the glorious Silver Age, Gerry Conway is a living legend that has scripted more Spider-Man stories than any other writer.

‘The Death of Gwen Stacy’ is now considered a cornerstone of the Spider-Man mythos, but Conway had to fight to keep Peter Parker’s girlfriend in the grave, thus making her the only comic book character in history NOT to be resurrected–dead parents or parental figures notwithstanding. He discusses the ramifications of the classic tale, as well as his reaction to seeing his story adapted for the silver screen.

Conway goes on to discuss aging superheroes, Todd McFarlane and the canonical status of J. Michael Straczynski’s Spider-Man stories.
